Future Islands and Baltimore captured by Yours Truly in mini-doc

David Letterman

The latest mini-documentary from San Francisco's Yours Truly is called "Future Islands: Time For the Show," and it briefly captures the Baltimore trio in the lead-up to the release of "Singles" (read my album review here).

The clip, which you can watch above, was shot in February, about three weeks before singer Sam Herring captured David Letterman's heart. The roughly five-minute piece features footage of the band playing new songs "A Dream of You and Me" and "Seasons (Waiting on You)" at the act's sold-out homecoming show at Floristree.

This beautiful footage is imperative to understanding the band's growth, its appreciation of Baltimore and how the independent music scene exists here.

"It's sort of an underdog city. It's kind of a terrifying place sometimes but because it is that way, I think it just brings everyone together," keyboardist/guitarist Gerrit Welmers says in the clip.

At Virgin Mobile FreeFest, Future Islands deliver dramatic opening set

With Das Racist calling out sick (the rap group took to Twitter to clarify Heems had strep throat), Baltimore trio Future Islands kicked off Virgin Mobile FreeFest's West stage a little before 1 p.m. at Merriweather Post Pavilion.
