Has Ryan Adams finally made something as good as "Heartbreaker"? That's what the early reviews are saying about "Ashes & Fire," his new album.
He'll be playing material from the album on his Fall tour, which he announced Monday, the same day NPR started streaming the album.
Adams will kick-off the tour in San Diego on October 11, the day the album's released, and will perform in Philadelphia December 2 and at Baltimore's the Lyric December 4. Tickets for the Baltimore show, at $53.80, go on sale Thursday.
Adams gave a memorable performance in Baltimore in 2005 that's been captured on video.
Baltimore's Dave Portner, (Avey Tare of Animal Collective) also announced a short string of solo shows Monday. He'll be at Washington's U Street Music Hall November 30 and Philadelphia's Johnny Brenda's December 1.
Portner, who we interviewed around the time Animal Collective played Merriweather earlier this year, is promoting his first official solo album, "Down There," which was released last year. Tickets, at $10, are on sale now.
Stuart Schuffman, who shot an episode of his IFC show "Young, Broke & Beautiful" in Baltimore in April, is back on October 17 to promote his new book, "Young, Broke & Beautiful: Broke-Ass Stuart's Guide to Living Cheaply."
He'll appear at Centerstage for what he described in an e-mail as "1/2 book reading/signing/Q&A and 1/2 dance party." In April, Schuffman's Baltimore episode was rightly criticized for promoting a misguided portrayal of the city. Ticket price has not been determined yet, Schuffman said. The plan now is ask for donations. The event is not listed on Centerstage's calendar.
A programming note: Sting has rescheduled the second show at DAR Constitution Hall he announced last week. Instead of playing October 30, he'll perform November 10. The announcement says the show had to be moved because of a "scheduling conflict."
All tickets for the October 30 show will be honored; refunds are also available. Sting is touring with a new greatest hits collection.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
