Let's quickly highlight the notable shows I'm not choosing: blissed-out dude G. Love & Special Sauce play Rams Head Live on Friday, the metal/hardcore-fest Ice Jam takes place over two days at Sonar, indie-darlings Cults play D.C.'s Black Cat on Saturday and nu-reggae-for-potheads Rebelution play Fillmore Silver Spring on Sunday. And those are just some of your options.
But why not Anthony Green? He's the lead singer of Circa Survive, one of the few remaining bands from the golden emo-as-pop-punk era. His solo stuff has touches of Bright Eyes and Panda Bear, or where confessional songwriting intersects with the atmospheric and experimental. It can be interesting stuff, and Green's high vocal range turns common phrases into something much more dramatic. Listen to Green's new single, "Get Yours While You Can" here.
Green's second solo album, "Beautiful Things," (the follow-up to 2008's "Avalon") hits stores on Tuesday, so consider Saturday's headlining set at Recher Theatre an almost-release show. Tickets are available for $16 now, and the price climbs to $18 on the day of the show. If you're under 21, it's an extra dollar.
