After closing in April for renovations, the 13th Floor in Mount Vernon's the Belvedere will reopen at 4 p.m. on Thursday, according to a press release.
Unhappy with its inconsistent "experience," the Belvedere Restaurant Group (BRG, which also operates the Owl Bar) used the renovation period as a time to refocus the 13th Floor, on top of giving it a new look. For example: The weekend's live music (one of the bar's former issues, as it often varied in style and genre from night-to-night) will be contemporary jazz.
The redesign, handled by BRG and Joley King Design Studio, makes the views of the city the bar's focal point. There is also furniture and art from Baltimore businesses and artists.
The 13th Floor will serve small plates and nightly entree specials. The food is described as "American fusion with hints of international flavors," and the small plates include pork belly sliders ($15) and pecan crusted Brie ($10).
Signature cocktails were created by John Klaus (The Prime Rib). The Blood Orange Caipirinha (pictured above) and the Hemingway Daiquiri will run patrons $11.
An invite-only party will celebrate the reopening tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. Jazz group Carte Blanche will perform.
Moving forward, the 13th Floor will be open Wednesdays (4-10 p.m.), Thursdays (4 p.m.-midnight), Fridays/Saturdays (4 p.m.-2 a.m.) and Sundays (noon-10 p.m.). Happy hour will take place Wednesday-Friday, 4-6 p.m.
Finally, some advice: Reservations are encouraged (410-327-0880) and business attire is required. "Smart casual attire [is] permitted on Sundays," whatever that means.
The 13th Floor was founded in 1978, and this most-recent full-scale renovation was its first since 1992. For more information, check out its website here.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
