Style: Tribal/experimental dance music.
Influenced by: Pink Floyd, Dead Can Dance, Stephen Kent, Tricky, Sheila Chandra, Medeski Martin and Wood, Amon Tobin.
Notable: On Saturday, Telesma will be accompanied by two dance troupes -- the Egyptian Sun Belly Dancers and Moth. Plus, a member of the band will play an egg slicer (yes, plastic and metal utensil last seen in your grandmother's kitchen drawer). It's played with a laser (an e-bow), and it makes "a tinkling, almost bell-like sound that resonated and reverberates," according to band member Sage.
Quotable: Sage on what to expect at the show: "At a lot of performances -- looking out from the stage at least -- the whole crowd is dancing, which is a good feeling. [The show] is a total sensory experience. It is not just music. Every tone also has a color, and a part of the body and a smell and a taste. It all sounds a little much, but I've done research into this."
