Earthtone

Hometown: Annapolis

Current members: Marshall Bausum, bass; Andrew Bianculli, guitar, vocals; Tommy Bradel, drums and vocals; Rick Casali, guitar and vocals; Colin "Colper" Stodd, percussion

Founded in: 1999

Style: indie roots rock

Influenced by: Phish, the Disco Biscuits, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Smashing Pumpkins, Bruce Springsteen

Notable: This week, the band released its debut self-titled CD. It also just started a Wednesday-night residency at the Whiskey 1803 in Annapolis. Live, the group can veer from a folk rock song into a drum and bass jam and then into a heavy-metal section -- a versatility the fans eat up, Casali said.

Quotable: "It's kind of all over the place, but it's very free, and I think our fans really crave that freedom," Casali said of the group's music. "It seems like they come back for that aspect of the live show. But I'm interested to see what the album's going to do, because we've never had an album."
