Series to commemorate the Catonsville Nine

A series of films marking the 40th anniversary of the "Catonsville Nine," a group of Catholic anti-war activists who were tried and found guilty of destroying draft files during the Vietnam conflict, will be part of a commemoration this week in the Baltimore area. Constantine's Sword, a documentary centering on author and former priest James Carroll's controversial take on Christianity and oppression, will be shown at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Mount St. Joseph High School, 4403 Frederick Ave. Admission is free, but donations are requested. At 4 p.m. Wednesday, University of Maryland, Baltimore County's Joby Taylor and Ed Orser will host a discussion and screening of The Ground Truth: After the Killing Ends, a documentary on the war in Iraq. A panel discussion afterward will feature veterans of the Vietnam and Iraq wars. Free. Information: 410-455-6398. Lynn Sachs' documentary on the Catonsville Nine, Investigation of a Flame, will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Creative Alliance at the Patterson, 3134 Eastern Ave., with discussion afterward. Coltrane on camera
John Coltrane: A Film Portrait, footage of a 1959 gig with the Miles Davis Quintet and a later performance with his own group, Trane, will be shown at 7 p.m. Wednesday at An die Musik Live, 409 N. Charles St. Tickets are $8. Information: 410-385- 2638 or andiemusiklive.com.

Jewish Film Festival
The 2008 Baltimore Jewish Film Festival continues Tuesday with Arik Henig's 2007 documentary Everything Is Personal, a look at the highly contentious relationship between two of Israel's most powerful and influential leaders, Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres. Student media work
The 2008 Towson University Student Media Arts Festival, showcasing the work of students in the school's media arts program, continues Monday night with entries in the areas of directing, social issues and audio commentary. On May 10, a program will feature the best films from the festival. Screenings begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of Van Bokkelen Hall on the school's campus, 8000 York Road. Admission is free.
