Timid geek Norbit suffers at the hand of his extremely large wife, Rasputia. But the dweeb perks up after reuniting with Kate (Thandie Newton), his childhood sweetheart from their days growing up at Mr. Wong's Golden Wonton and Orphanage. Eddie Murphy plays Norbit, Rasputia and Mr. Wong but shares the wealth with Cuba Gooding Jr. and Marlon Wayans in terrible supporting roles.

Big question: Um, is this the same Eddie Murphy currently nominated for an Oscar?

Skip it: While Murphy turns in three awful performances, "Norbit" exhibits unqualified viciousness towards the overweight, self-indulgence on the level of Tyler Perry and racism and stupidity approaching the depths of the Wayans Brothers. Rasputia sucks any gasps of life from "Norbit" into obnoxious, scary places no viewer will want to go.

Catch it: If you laughed so hard in "Date Movie" when soaking wet, fat suit-clad Alyson Hannigan dances to "Milkshake" that you were hoping another movie would include an identical scene. Great stuff, Eddie!

Bottom line: It's a sad thing to watch Newton stuck in this trash, like a lovely cashmere sweater that someone accidentally threw in the dumpster. The film makes "Big Momma's House 2" look like "Some Like It Hot," and if you survive the maddening "Norbit" without hurting yourself or those around you, consider it a triumph of self-restraint.

Bonus: Just a reminder for anyone who enjoyed a pretend wedding as a child (as Norbit and Kate did): Ring Pops are not legally binding.
