  • The Senator DESERVES to continue to serve the community as the number one entertainment destination to Baltimore. It is an ABSOLUTE DISGRACE how Baltimore City officials have treated this matter and Today, 7/22/2009, marks a SERIOUS PROBLEM in local government.

  • I don't trust the city to ever do the right thing. I'm sure in this case some politico's going to pay back somebody. To turn the Senator into a church would be a gross misuse of an historic building like this. I'm hoping maybe the owner of the Charles Theater buys it.

  • AUCTION DATE CORRECTION: Wednesday, July 22 @ 11AM LOCATION: The Senator Theatre http://senator.com If you know of a historical theatre-friendly individual/group, please let them know about this. The community here would certainly embrace an organization with a multi-purpose arts, education & entertainment vision!.. Anyone interested in helping our community non-profit do this here?

  • The auction date has been set. Alex Cooper Auctions willl be holding the auction inside The Historic Senator Theatre @ 11 a.m. July 22. My hope is that someone with the funds will turn it into the non-profit muti-media venu it deserves to be.

  • Teneesha - With all due respect, The Senator Theatre would be a horrible place for a church. New churches can be built. The Senator is Baltimore's last historic single screen theatre and it can not be replaced. It should remain a theatre for everyone to enjoy.

  • Tiny Avenger - We live in a corrupt city full of self serving government officials and organizations that constantly lie. If we lose The Senator as a theatre, the city will have no one but itself to blame and we'll be the ones who lose out, yet again. They should be ashamed of themselves!

  • So now the city is telling folks that it is NOT going to advertise the auction, as they told the community recently. Will this lying madness ever end?

    Tiny Avenger @ 6:40 PM EDT, Jun 16, 2009

  • So if the folks from the city assured everyone that they are going to go all out and advertise the auction of the theatre, then why are we now hearing that they AREN'T going to? The city folks don't seem to be able to keep all of their lies straight....

  • I think the theater would be a good place for a church. a lot of old closed theaters are bought by churches. My church is looking for a larger venue and has been talking to them about this.

  • Greta-I 've heard this a number of times too. Churches were interestd in 2007 & it's very likely they'd buy the theatre at auction. They have the funds & they comply with the CHAP restrictions too. They may also be exempt from conforming to CHAP b/c they're a church
