Baltimore City Council condemns Trump's rhetoric, days before his visit

John Waters' Friday-night pick, 'Paradise: Faith'

Baltimore's proudest bad boy has hosted a film at every Maryland Film Festival since the beginning, usually alternating between absurdist comedies and singular, happily idiosyncratic dramas. In recent years, however, he's been sticking to the dramas, a trend continuing this year with Austrian director Ulrich Seidl's "Paradise: Faith." The story of a woman perhaps overly committed to Catholic orthodoxy, and what happens when her paraplegic Muslim husband reappears after a two-year absence, this definitely sounds like the kind of film where Waters' perspective would be most welcome. -- Chris Kaltenbach Screens 8 p.m. May 10 at Charles Theatre 1
