The Katy Perry-John Mayer saga continues. The pair, who reportedly split up last March, appear to be back on.
The singers were spotted holding hands Monday at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York as they were leaving the Friars Foundation's roast of comedian Don Rickles, 87, who received a lifetime achievement award for comedy. (Bob Newhart, Robert De Niro, Joan Rivers, Bob Saget, Kathy Griffin and John Stamos were also in attendance.)
Normally we wouldn't be so enthused by this bit of PDA, but it's unusual juxtaposed with her recent disclosure that she and Mayer were kaput. Perry herself, however, admitted that she was still "madly in love" with the singer, insisting that Mayer wasn't simply a rebound guy after she divorced comedian Russell Brand.
"I was madly in love with him," she said in Vogue's July 2013 issue.
"I still am madly in love with him. All I can say about that relationship is that he's got a beautiful mind .... Beautiful mind, tortured soul. I do have to figure out why I am attracted to these broken birds."
The 28-year-old also said that she was single. (Shows how quickly things can change between interviews and press time.)
"I'm not in a relationship, I'm just on my own — I am myself in my own bed," she said. "I have to be happy being alone, and I am happy ... I believe that I will be loved again, in the right way ... I know I'm worth it."
Perry and Mayer were also spotted having what appeared to be a date night on Saturday at the Greenwich Hotel and the Bowery Hotel in New York, E! News reported, saying that the duo was officially "back on."
"They were very cuddly and cute," a source told E! News. "Katy definitely gave the impression that she and John are 100 percent back together."
So what's the deal, kiddos? Could he have read her Vogue profile? We want to think so.
