Banker, business owner Buerge files for bankruptcy

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Banker and former TV "Bachelor" Aaron Buerge has filed for personal bankruptcy.  Court documents show Buerge and his businesses are $7 million in debt.  Among Buerge's largest liabilities are Trolley's restaurant and the Vandivort Center building on Walnut Street in downtown Springfield.

The filing comes nine months after Trolley's filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.  It's unclear what Buerge's personal financial problems mean for the restaurant or the Vandivort, which houses offices and a community theater.

Buerge is president of First National Bank.  In a telephone interview on Tuesday night, Buerge said three banks with which he does business were distressed or failed.  He said is reaffirming all the other debts.
