Monica Beresford-Redman's naked body was found April 8 in a septic tank at the Moon Palace Hotel in Cancun where she had been staying with her husband and two children.
Investigators say she died some time on April 5th.
An autopsy revealed that the cause of death was asphyxia by suffocation.
The autopsy report also indicated the presence of bruising to the victim's face and a blunt head wound that the examiner stated was related to the time and date of death.
On April 9, 2010, a forensic expert examined the couple's hotel room.
He found stains on a pillar in the room, on the sheets on the bed, and on a railing on the balcony of the room.
The stains tested presumptively positive for the presence of blood.
A police source shared with KTLA that they believe Beresford-Redman strangled his wife inside the hotel room and then dumped her body inside the septic tank, 200-feet away.
