Robert Dewey Hoskins |
NORWALK, Calif. (KTLA) -- Authorities have apprehended a man convicted of stalking and making criminal threats against Madonna -- he had walked away from a state mental hospital in Norwalk last Friday.
The LAPD says 54-year-old Robert Dewey Hoskins was found around 9 a.m., not far from Metropolitan State Hospital.
Officers in the area of South Street and Cherry Avenue in Long Beach saw a man matching Hoskins' description walking down the street.
They made contact with the man and confirmed he was Hoskins, then took him into custody without incident.
The Long Beach Police Department's Mental Evaluation Team responded took custody of Hoskins and transported him back to Metropolitan State Hospital.
Hoskins walked away from the facility on Friday, February 3.
He had previously served a ten year prison sentence for stalking Madonna.
He wanted to marry the pop star and threatened to kill her.
Two decades ago, Hoskins even sneaked onto Madonna's property and was shot by her body guard.
Upon his release from prison Hoskins was sent to Atascadero State Hospital where he was determined to be a Mentally Disturbed Offender.
He was later released from Atascadero, but was arrested again last July on another matter.
At that time he was sent to Metropolitan State Hospital through on a Civil Commitment.
Hoskins is described as 'highly psychotic' when not taking his medication, and has very violent tendencies, authorities said.
The LAPD says Madonna was notified when he could not be located.
