The group wore all black for the event, which they dubbed "Black Thursday."
Among the concerned parents who showed up was former 90210 actor Luke Perry.
"We're mourning the fact that we're going to lose some of our great teachers and some of the great programs these schools have to offer because of the budgetary irresponsibility in Sacramento," Perry told KTLA.
Perry said that Millikan is losing guidance counselors and teachers, and could soon have a guidance counselor-to-student ratio of 1000 to 1.
"What kind of guidance can you really offer under those conditions?" Perry asked.
He said the protest is intended to force lawmakers to "prioritize the dignity of these teachers and the future of these children."
Megan Ross, a teacher at Millikan, also spoke to KTLA about the difficulties created by budget cuts.
Ross has received a pink slip three separate times, but has been brought back to teach in each case.
"It's very, very uncertain, and it's very difficult," she said, adding that she has been teaching since she was just 23 years old.
"I don't know how anybody in their right mind would keep coming back if it wasn't for the kids."
The protest is expected to last all day, with a phone campaign kicking off at 8 a.m.
The group is asking people to bring their cell phones down to the school, and use them to call lawmakers and voice their concerns.
