MONTECITO (KTLA) -- Reality star Kim Kardashian and basketball pro Kris Humphries exchanged vows Saturday in an exclusive ceremony set to air on the family's reality show in October.

Five-hundred guests attended the lavish affair, which was held Saturday evening at a private canyon estate in Montecito. Most of the wedding's details have been kept under wraps, but insiders say people -- who were previously invited -- had to be bumped from the guest list because of fire safety concerns.

"Fifty (guests were bumped) because the fire marshal had to cut it down," said KISS FM's Ellen K, a friend of the Kardashian family. "I guess the calls had to be made personally by him."

Kardashian's step-father, former Olympian Bruce Jenner, will walk her down the aisle. Friends say Kardashian is upset that her father, Robert Kardashian -- who died in 2003 -- could not be there for her big day. But today's ceremony will pay tribute to him.

"There will be an emotional tribute to him," Ellen K said. "There is going to be a lot about him."

Kim is expected to wear several different dresses throughout the night. But the dress she wore during the ceremony is a classic Hollywood-inspired piece by Vera Wang, Ellen K said.

People magazine has the rights to behind-the-scenes wedding photos -- the couple supposedly sold the rights for more than $1.5 million -- and cable network E! will air a two-part special on the celebrity nuptials, set to air in October.

Kim's sister -- Khloe -- and mother -- Kris Jenner -- encouraged her Saturday with letters, which were made public.

"Watching you, the ultimate believer in true love, fall head over heels for your prince charming has been so special for everyone who knows and loves you," Khloe wrote. "You deserve everything wonderful in the world, and I have no doubt that you will get exactly that after you walk down the aisle tonight."

Khloe also thanked Humphries, for "turning my sister's world upside down."

In her letter, Kris Jenner mentioned memories of Kim playing dress-up and how time has flown by so quickly.

"I know you and Kris will be very happy together and you have found someone to grow old with," she wrote. "You will always be my little princess angel, and you are going to make the most amazing wife. You are truly blessed."
