Reports of Etta James' Death Not True, Son Says
Death rumors spread over the internet following the circulation of a fake TMZ page.
"She's fine. I just saw her last night and she was fine," the singer's son, Donto James, told the Los Angeles Times.
The response comes after a fake TMZ page apparently circulated a report that James had passed away on August 3.
The seriously-ill, 73-year-old "At Last" crooner lives in the Woodcrest section of Riverside County and has been suffering from dementia and leukemia. She has been in and out of the hospital over the past two years.
The singer's husband of more than 41 years, Artis Mills, is seeking control of her finances.
James gave power of attorney to sons Donto James and Sametto James and Donto's wife Christy in February 2008.
The family members are currently locked in a court battle over James' $1 million in savings, but say their primary concern is getting her the proper medical care.
In 2009, the legendary crooner made headlines after Beyonce sang "At Last" at President Obama's inaugural ball. She bashed both the president and Beyonce, however, Donto James said his mother would not have acted that way if she were in her right mindset.
