The name is quite a mouthful, but so is the wine. Gruner veltliner is not exactly a household name among grapes, but it produces magnificent white wines in Austria (and at Black Ankle Vineyards in Maryland, by the way). This bone-dry wine has a steely elegance and complexity and pleases the palate with its finely etched flavors of lime, citrus peel, green apple, white pepper and slate. Devotees of fine, dry rieslings from Alsace will likely admire this wine. It's a lot of wine for the price. Does it need to be said any more that the screw cap is a sign of better quality?
