Serve with: Grilled red meats, pasta
I have recommended various lots of this classic, ultra-consistent nonvintage red wine blend since at least as far back as 1995.( Actually, I'm pretty sure I started doing so in the 1980s, but the Sun's electronic library only goes back so far.) Every few years, I feel compelled to remind readers how fine a value it is. Zinfandel predominates in this lot, which offers lush, ripe, earthy fruit with hints of blackberry, black pepper and chocolate. It still has that burly smoothness I've always loved. Kudos to Marietta for resisting change.
