Fire damages Fells Point restaurant Peter's Inn

A trash fire early Friday caused significant damage to the Fells Point restaurant Peter’s Inn.

The extent of the damage may not be known for weeks, staff said. The restaurant will remain closed for repairs.

“We appreciate our friends and customer support during this difficult time and we look forward to reopening in 2018,” owners Karin and Bud Tiffany said in a statement.

The couple bought the place on South Ann Street after they married in 1995. Tucked inside a rowhouse, the cozy inn is known for its intimate atmosphere with only 37 seats, bright red facade and quirky character. The walls are packed with photos, knickknacks and a trophy swordfish. The waitresses wear 1950s-style aprons.

The damage was caused by a small trash fire, said Blair Skinner, spokeswoman for the Baltimore fire department. Crews arrived shortly after 2:30 a.m. Friday. They extinguished the fire and cleared the scene in about an hour.

No one was hurt and firefighters continue to investigate how the fire began.

The damage has caused the owners to cancel their celebratory New Year’s Day brunch of lobster rolls and BLTs.
