Ryleigh's Oyster closes Mount Vernon restaurant

Ryleigh’s Oyster has closed its Mount Vernon location with plans to transition the restaurant to a private event space and catering kitchen.

Brian McComas, who owns Ryleigh’s, said it was a difficult decision to close the restaurant at 1225 Cathedral St., but the last two years have been hard, and ultimately he couldn’t justify operating it as a full-service restaurant.

Ryleigh’s flagship location in Federal Hill and a second location in Timonium remain open. As its name suggests, Ryleigh’s menu focuses on oysters and seafood.

The Mount Vernon restaurant opened in 2014. It often hosted live music, and catered to patrons heading to shows at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric.

McComas said all employees at the Mount Vernon location were transferred to other Ryleigh’s locations.

The two remaining restaurants will offer specials Saturday for National Oyster Day, including $5 oyster shooters all day and oysters starting at 50 cents, with 25-cent price increases each hour until they cap at $2 each.
