The Queen paid an unexpected lunchtime visit to a cafe in Upper Fells Point on Monday.
Queen Latifah, that is.
Water for Chocolate chef and owner Sean Guy said he had no clue the actress would be dining at his restaurant until he saw her walk inside.
“When I saw her walking in I almost passed out,” Guy said. “She came in and I was like, ‘Queen Latifah!’ And she was like, ‘Listen man, I’m just hungry.’”
Located at 1841 E. Lombard St., Water for Chocolate prides itself on “sexy comfort cuisine” and was recently chosen as the Baltimore’s best comfort-food spot as part of The Sun’s Best of Baltimore 2017.
Latifah had barbecue shrimp and grits, eggs with cheese and an Arnold Palmer, Guy said.
Guy said she ate while other guests snapped photos with her during the hour and a half she was at Water for Chocolate. He posted a photo with the actress outside the cafe on the Water For Chocolate Facebook page Monday afternoon.
“She was pretty cool,” Guy said. “She took pictures with everyone — dressed down, no makeup, no security.”
It’s unclear why the entertainer was in town. Previous reports indicate she owns a home in Joppa and frequently visits Maryland and Virginia. She’s also due to appear in a movie with Baltimore native Jada Pinkett Smith this summer. The comedy, “Girls Trip,” is set to be released July 21.
