National Oyster Day specials at Baltimore-area restaurants

National Oyster Day is Saturday, and restaurants in the Baltimore area are rolling out specials and fundraisers to celebrate the briny bivalves.

Here are some of the spots you can slurp oysters at a discount this weekend, and others where oyster sales will go toward sustaining the mollusks’ future in the Chesapeake Bay.

B&O American Brasserie at the Hotel Monaco will offer two-for-one oysters (usually $3 each) at its raw bar during dinner service from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday.

Grand Cru in Belvedere Square will offer $1 oysters Saturday and donate 10 cents per oyster to the Oyster Recovery Partnership.

Gunther & Co. in Brewers Hill will host an oyster happy hour to benefit No Kid Hungry from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. The restaurant will donate 20 cents from every War Shore Oyster Co. “War on Hunger” oyster sold to No Kid Hungry.

The Local Oyster at the Mount Vernon Marketplace is donating 10 percent of its Saturday sales to the Oyster Recovery Partnership.

Loch Bar in Harbor East will serve $2 oysters all day Saturday.

Mt. Washington Tavern is offering oysters paired with Flying Dog beers, oyster tasting flights and grilled oysters with summer sauces Thursday through Sunday.

Nickel Taphouse will offer $2 roasted oysters — with flavors including casino, Rockefeller, Thai curry, Nawlins and Carolina BBQ — on its brunch menu throughout the weekend.

The Oceanaire Seafood Room in Harbor East will offer $1 oysters throughout the day on Saturday.

Ryleigh’s Oyster in Federal Hill and Hunt Valley will offer local oysters starting at 50 cents at 11 a.m., with prices increasing 25 cents each hour and capping at $2 per oyster. The restaurants will also offer $5 oyster shooters all day. Ryleigh’s previously had a location in Mount Vernon, but that restaurant has closed.

At Uncle’s Hawaiian Grindz in Fallston, the restaurant will donate 25 cents from each oyster sold Saturday to the Oyster Recovery Partnership.

The Urban Oyster will celebrate National Oyster Day early with a pop-up at the Harbor Market in the Inner Harbor Aug. 4.

In addition to the specials above, a number of restaurants in Maryland, D.C. and Virginia will donate 10 cents from every oyster sold Aug. 5 to the Oyster Recovery Partnership. Each 10 cents is enough to plant 10 baby oysters (spat) on sanctuary reefs in the Chesapeake Bay.

Here are the participating restaurants in Greater Baltimore, according to the Oyster Recovery Partnership:

  • Annapolis and Anne Arundel County: Azure Restaurant, Blackwall Hitch, Boatyard Bar & Grill, Buddy’s Crabs & Ribs, Cafe Mezzanotte, Galway Bay Irish Restaurant & Pub, Grapes Wine Bar, Mike’s Bar & Crab House, Rams Head Tavern and Sailor Oyster Bar.
  • Baltimore City: Dylan’s Oyster Cellar, Gertrude’s, Grand Cru, Jimmy’s Famous Seafood, Kooper’s Tavern, Lee’s Pint & Shell, the Local Oyster, Mama’s on the Half Shell, Nickel Taphouse, Ryleigh’s Oyster, Slainte and Thames Street Oyster House.
  • Baltimore County: Harryman House and Long Beach Oyster House.
  • Carroll County: Maggie’s Restaurant and RockSalt Grille.
  • Harford County: Black Eyed Suzie’s and Uncle’s Hawaiian Grindz.
  • Howard County: Hudson Coastal Raw Bar & Grille.
