Woodberry Kitchen’s chef de cuisine is one to watch, according to Eater’s latest picks for its annual Young Guns list.
Lou Sumpter was named one of 17 restaurant professionals on Eater’s Young Guns 2017 list, an annual compilation of culinary industry rising stars who are either under 30 or who have worked in the industry less than five years. Eater provides online dining guides and food news nationwide, and a team of editors chooses each class of Young Guns after taking public nominations.
Sumpter, who began working at Woodberry Kitchen in 2012, is the first Baltimore chef to make the list in the six years Eater has published it.
Other winners included Daniela Moreira, executive chef and owner of Timber in Washington, D.C., and Jesse Ito, chef and owner of Royal Sushi & Izakaya in Philadelphia. The full list is available here.
