Cross Street Market will host a series of pop-up shops in November as the Federal Hill public market launches into renovations.
Four new pop-up stalls will open in recently renovated vacant stalls in the market, which is being redeveloped by Towson-based Caves Valley Partners.
The first pop-up to join the market, Sundays, is set to open Nov. 6, when it will begin offering brioche and cake doughnuts with flavors such as french toast, matcha green tea, strawberry shortcake and goat cheese honey.
Other concepts that will join the market later in November include Cookie Dough & Co. (serving safe-to-eat cookie dough concoctions), Smoke (barbecue), and Prescription Chicken (soups) and Gertie’s Yummy Yogurt Bowls (yogurt parfait), which will co-occupy a stall.
Those pop-ups are expected to be in business at Cross Street Market through construction, and are expected to become permanent tenants in the market following renovations, said Arsh Mirmiran, a partner in Caves Valley Partners.
The pop-ups will join the market as it undergoes a major overhaul. It will be under construction through 2019, and current market tenants will remain open through construction.
“The idea was to try to drive some business with the existing merchants,” Mirmiran said of the pop-ups.
About 11 of Cross Street Market’s stalls are currently occupied, and the addition of the pop-ups will lower its vacancy rate to about 50 percent, Mirmiran said.
Construction will occur in phases, he said, and major renovations will start in early 2018. Crews will first renovate the middle of the market, with the east and west ends remaining open. After the middle is updated, tenants will move into that area (except for Nick’s Inner Harbor Seafood — that stall will remain open in place throughout construction, Mirmiran said) and both ends of the market will be renovated.
Vendors, including the pop-ups, will move into their permanent stalls following construction.,The market will continue to house pop-ups in dedicated stalls as testing grounds for new concepts.
Cross Street Market will also have new hours starting this month. Beginning Nov. 12, the market, at 1065 S. Cross St., will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
