Bmore Licks ice cream shop opening near Patterson Park

Bmore Licks, a new ice cream shop near Patterson Park, is on track to open its doors just in time to provide customers relief from the summer heat.

The ice cream shop is opening at 2437 Eastern Ave. in Canton. Owners Barbara Maloni and Kim Proctor are targeting an opening in the second or third week of July.

Maloni is a second-generation ice cream maker whose family owns ice cream shops in New England. She said she always intended to return and join the family business — until she met and married Proctor.

Resolved to bring ice cream to the Patterson Park area, where she saw a void of independent ice cream shops, Maloni said she found the only retail space available in the area to open the shop.

“There was no place around the time at the park where I could get something like I had at home,” she said. “If I can’t have the ice cream, I’m just going to have to bring the ice cream to Baltimore.”

They bought the building at the corner of Eastern and South Milton avenues in January and have since been updating it in preparation for a summer opening.

Maloni works in financial services and Proctor is a government researcher, jobs they will continue juggling with the ice cream shop for the foreseeable future.

“This is just our passion play,” Maloni said.

Maloni said she plans to make the ice cream onsite using family recipes. The shop will offer about 30 flavors of hard ice cream, and more than 100 flavors of soft-serve made to order — think birthday cake ice cream made with actual cake, or maple walnut ice cream with real nuts incorporated into the ice cream.

They also plan to serve novelties such as coffee in a cone — a waffle cone dipped in three layers of chocolate and filled with coffee. Ice cream tacos and nachos, made from waffle chips and smothered in ice cream and toppings, will also be on the menu.

Bmore Licks will also serve vegan ice cream, offering at least two flavors made with coconut milk and almond milk.

On Saturdays and Sundays, Bmore Licks will partner with Diablo Doughnuts to serve sweets from the Fells Point doughnut shop and coffee.
