Michael Pollan coming to Strathmore

Michael Pollan's appearance at the Baltimore Speaker Series isn't until January, but there is something I urgently need to tell you about him.

The author of the "Omnivore's Dilemma" and "In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto" is coming to the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall on Jan. 12, 2012 as part of the Baltimore Speaker Series.

UPDATE: You don't have to wait untl January to see Michael Pollan. The New York Times contributing writer will open the Strathmore's 2011-21 Speaker Series on Wendesday, Oct. 26 at 8 p.m., in the Music Center. Pollan's talk, In Defense of Food: The Omnivore's Solution, will explore food consumption and the industries that surround it. Ticket prices range from $35-60. For more information, go here.

That's months from now, but I just learned something about Pollan, though, that I need to share with you right now.

He's Tracy Pollan's brother! And Michael J. Fox's brother-in-law.

O.K. Back to work.

Over the past several years, Baltimore's bar food has steadily improved, with sophisticated flavors and techniques along with a farm-to-table ethos. But what about post-bar food? When the evening's winding down and you realize you're ravenous, the culinary choices are often just not that great.
