Wish that Baltimore had a place like Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken( Photo courtesy The Emporiyum/Scott Suchman / February 18, 2013 )
Have you heard, doughnuts are the new cupcakes? Baltimore doesn't have a new-age doughnut shop of its own, but Washington does -- Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken. The brainchild of longtime friends and native Washingtonians, Elliot Spaisman and Jeff Halpern, Astro prepares its buttermilk chicken and doughnuts daily and on-site. The standard doughnut offerings at Astro's D.C. cafe include vanilla glazed, maple bacon, creme brulee. Astro made its Baltimore debut, of sorts, at The Emporiyum, a two-day food market featuring some of the region's hottest food vendors.
