Scoozi -- a restaurant specializing in pizza, pastas, panini and other Italian food like arancini and veal meatballs and braised short ribs -- will be opening soon in the Radisson Hotel at the Village of Cross Keys.

Scoozi will open in early November, according to Donna McCulloch, the hotel's food and beverage director. Scoozi is essentially replacing Crossroads, which flourished in the 1990s as a venue for business breakfasts.

Scoozi won't feel like a hotel restaurant, McCulloch said. "We want to run it independently. It doesn’t look anything like a hotel restaurant."

The restaurant change-over comes as part of a $5 million top-to-bottom renovation at the hotel, according to Robert H. Breeden, the Radisson's director of sales.

Scoozi will seat 56 people, McCulloch said, including a communal table beside the dining room's central Wood Stone pizza oven.

The chef at Scoozi is Tim Robertson. "He's young and passionate," McCulloch said "We have a real strong team that we're building with Tim. We're having fun as we go along."

Scoozi will be open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant will offer gluten-free pizza and pasta, McCulloch said. Breakfast will include breakfast pizzas and breakfast panini in addition to cinnamon-roll French toast, red velvet pancakes and banana-bacon pancakes.

"We're serving sugar comas for breakfast," McCulloch said.
