The organizers of the Star-Spangled Sailabration have announced three open cooking competitions -- for cold crab dips, cupcakes and crab cakes -- that will be held as part of Galley Works, the culinary component of the upcoming maritime festival.
The deadline for submissions has been extended to June 8.
Three finalists in the Big Daddy Crab Cake Competition at Sailabration, as determined by a select committee, will prepare and present their crab cakes at Galley Works on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at 2pm. The grand prize is $500. The second place winner receives $250 and the third place winner receives a $150 gift certificate to the Waterfront Kitchen.
The Best Served Cold Competition at Sailabration is for crab dips. Three finalists will be chosen to prepare and present their crab dips during Galley Works on Friday, June 15, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. The first place winner receives $500, second place $250 and third place a $150 gift certificate to Waterfront Kitchen in Fells Point.
Novices and experienced bakers will participate in The Sailabration Sweet Sailing Cupcake Competition. Five finalists will be chosen present their sweet creations during Galley Works on Saturday, June 16 at 4 p.m. Prizes include: $250 for first place, a $100 gift card to Williams-Sonoma for second place, a $50 Bed Bath & Beyond gift card for third place, and a $25 Whole Foods Market gift card for fourth and fifth place.
Galley Works, according to BOPA, will give visiting and local chefs, food aficionados and food industry members opportunities to inform, promote and provide samples of their products during the mid-June maritime festival, the national kickoff to the War of 1812 Bicentennial.
