Nando's Peri-Peri, the South African-Portugese restaurant chain, had its Towson grand opening today. Located next the the new Cinemark theater, it's the first restaurant to open in the new Towson Square development.
Nancy Carr of Towson ate there on Tuesday -- a trial-run day to train staff -- and gave it a thumbs up.
"I really enjoyed it. It's different from the usual grilled chicken place and the decor is very cool," she said in an email. "My son liked it, too, and he is very finicky. Is it Portuguese food with an African twist? Or vice versa? Anyway, we liked it and the staff were great as well."
The 136-seat space features metal shipping containers that have been cut up and repurposed as decorative tiles, wooden shipping pallets that have been turned into dividers, open-flame grills and a patio that seats 38.
Along with restaurants on five different continents, Nando's has locations in downtown Baltimore and Arundel Mills and plans to open another location in Harbor East by the end of the year.
