The Maryland Bacon Festival, a first-time event, is coming to Baltimore's Inner Harbor. It will be held on Rash Field from noon to 10 p.m. on April 26.

The event, which will take the form of a bacon-themed block party, will include extensive bacon sampling, bacon-eating contests and bacon-cooking demonstrations in addition to live bands and a bacon-themed children's zone.

There will also be full-service bars featuring bacon-themed cocktails.

The day-long food event is being produced by Baltimore promoter Evan Weinstein, under the name America Loves Bacon, in partnership with the Columbia-based catering firm Charm City Hospitality.

Weinstein has staged music events before, but the bacon festival, which he hopes to make an annual event, is his first time producing a large-scale food event.

Bacon, Weinstein said, seemed like a good food item to build a festival around.

"I call bacon the duct-tape of meat," he said. "You can put it on anything and it fixes it."

Weinstein will be staging a similar bacon festival in Philadelphia on May 10 and is close to securing other dates in East Coast cities, he said.

Maryland Bacon Festival is noon to 10 p.m., April 26. Advance general admission tickets are $25. Admission includes three samples with additional sample tickets available at $2 each.

Weinstein said he is finalizing the list of participating restaurants and food trucks.
