Ryleigh's Oyster: Home of the Yandawich
It's not a sandwich, it's a Yandawich. Inspired by and named for Ravens offensive guard Marshal Yanda, the Yandawich is a take on the mammoth pork tenderloin and pickle sandwich that Yanda looks forward to on his trips back home to Iowa. That's what the folks say at Ryleigh's Oyster
, who came up with the Yandawich in honor of the 315-pound, fifth-year lineman out of Cedar Rapids, a regular customer at their Federal Hill restaurant. The Yandawich subs in a corn-and-poached oyster salad for the Iowa pickle, a nice Maryland touch. And the Yandawich's stout mustard was inspired by Yanda's drink of choice says Ryleigh's owner Brian McComas. (Lloyd Fox, Baltimore Sun /April 21, 2008)
KFC has declared itself the official sponsor of "couchgating," which KFC says is "the act of enjoying a big time sporting event from the comfort of your couch."
The company has launched a special section on the KFC Facebook page with contests, rules (e.g., "If you touch the wing, you eat the wing") and tips (e.g., "Shouting at the television usually makes your team do better").
It's kind of cute and it's all a promotion for KFC's new Gameday Bucket - eight pieces of chicken, eight hot wings and 10 Original Recipe bites, all for $19.99 at participating restaurants.
KFC is giving away couchgating gear like T-shirts and foam fingers. The grand prize, which will make-over a living room into "couchgating central," includes a couch and love seat, HDTV, recliner, tables and mini-fridge.
