Joey B's Bar and Grille is now open in the Federal Hill spot that used to be The Hill.
The new restaurant, which is having its grand opening on Friday night, is from Joseph Bivona, who owns the Grille at Peerce's Landing in the old Peerce's Plantation property on Dulaney Valley Road.
Joey B's Bar and Grille is a more casual spot than the Grille at Peerce's. The basic layout at Joey B's is the same as The Hill's was, but the whole place has been repainted. Everything that was white is now a glossy black; everything that was cream colored is now brick red. The walls are filled with Baltimore memorabilia, mostly sports photographs.
The menu includes build-your-own burgers, panini, hot turkey sandwiches; the entrees are classic Baltimore tavern fare like chicken Milanese, baby back ribs and crab cakes.
The house specialty is chef Manny Robinson's variations on arancini -- Sicilian rice balls. Stuffed with things like lump crab meat, fresh buffalo mozzarella or macaroni and cheese, Joey B's Balls, as they're known here, are served three to an order. They've been the big hit of the new restaurant's first week, said manager Megan Heath.
Joey B's Bar is open for dinner seven days a week, for lunch Wednesday through Friday and for brunch on weekends. Friday's grand opening party, which will include live music from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., is open to the public, Heath said.
