It's International Sushi Day

June 18 is International Sushi Day. It just is. On International Sushi Day, it is customary to eat sushi.

In observance of International Sushi Day, RA Sushi Bar Restaurant in Fells Point is offering complimentary Tootsy Maki, one of its most popular rolls, to anyone who prints out a certificate from RA's Facebook page.

Printing the certificate is kind of a pain in the neck, so you really should commit to it.

The Tootsy Maki contains kani kama crab mix, shrimp and cucumber, rolled and topped with crunchy tempura bits and drizzled with a sweet eel sauce. It does not contain raw fish, so it's a good entry-level sushi choice.

Hey, did you know that many Americans mistakenly believe sushi means “raw fish.” Sushi actually means vinegared rice. In fact, sushi does not need to contain raw fish at all. Sushi is first and foremost a rice dish, which can include vegetables, cooked fish, raw fish, poultry, or other proteins.

There's more:

"The original sushi dates back to Japan over 2,000 years ago and only used pickled seafood. Rice was only added in the 17th century to aid the fermentation process and was actually discarded before eating."

Wait. Didn't you just say ...
