Ethel's Creole Kitchen in Mount Washington

Formerly known as Ethel & Ramone's, Ethel's Creole Kitchen is set to open Tuesday in Mount Washington. (April 4, 2014)

The Mount Washington restaurant formerly known as Ethel & Ramone's will reopen Tuesday as Ethel's Creole Kitchen, according to Edward M. Bloom, the restaurant's executive chef and co-owner.

The restaurant closed for renovations last fall, months after Bloom and his partner, Jeff Berkow, purchased the Sulgrave Avenue building that they had been leasing.

Berkow opened a coffee and tea room in the building back in 1993. Bloom joined him in 1999, and together they relaunched the business as Ethel & Ramone's.

A new upper-level dining porch and an enlarged kitchen are among the improvements made in the remodeling.

Ethel's Creole Kitchen will feature a revamped menu, one that paints a more complete picture than did Ethel & Ramone's of what Bloom calls "Maryland Creole" cuisine

For the past several years, Ethel's has been a familiar Sunday presence at Baltimore Farmers' Market, where Bloom and his kitchen crew sold jambalaya and Cajun breakfast sandwiches.

Bloom said Ethel's will not be returning to the market in 2014, because he wants to focus on developing a New Orleans-style Sunday brunch at the new restaurant.

Ethel's Creole Kitchen is at 1615 Sulgrave Ave. in Mount Washington. For information call 410-664-2971 or go to ethelscreolekitchen.com.
