Donna's isn't coming back to the Park Plaza building. Neither are Indigma or My Thai, the other former restaurant tenants of the Mount Vernon property that was damaged in a December 2010 fire.
The news, not unexpected, was announced in a press release from the Time Group and WPM Real Estate Group, its property management arm. The Park Plaza is now owned in part by Connie Caplan and her son, Mark Caplan, the chairman and president, respectively of the Time Group.
"While we were not able to bring back any of the former restaurant tenants," the announcement said, "we are in active negotiation with a number of prospects who we believe will enhance the great dining and retail choices already available in the neighborhood.
One of the former restaurant tenants, My Thai, will be opening soon in the LittleItaly'sTack Factory, next door to Heavy Seas Alehouse. Another, Indigma, opened last summer in a new location, directly across the street from the Park Plaza.
Donna's might also re-appear elsewhere in Mount Vernon, according to Alan Hirsch, the restaurant's co-owner. "We're working on another location in the neighborhood, and we hope to conclude a deal within a month," Hirsch said. "Connie and Mark Caplan were fantastic and they tried very hard to make it work for us," Hirsch said. "For the plans we have for the future, that wasn't the right space. Donna's is almost 20 years old and our concept of what Donna's is has to evolve."
