The Corner BYOB in Hampden has opened a new establishment right next to itself. The new joint is named The Other Corner Charcuterie Bar.
The Other Corner Charcuterie Bar has a full liquor license, but diners at the original Corner BYOB will still be able to bring in their own beer and bottles of wine just as always.
"We're starting off light, making pates and mousses" owner and chef Bernard Dehaene said. Eventually, The Other Corner will be curing its own meats, too, he said.
In addition to its lineup of meats and cheeses, The Other Corner is offering a menu of small plates like Merguez fondue, escargots, mussels steamed with the beer of the day, fingerling potatoes fried in duck fat and a vegetable risotto cooked in saffron vegetable stock.
The Other Corner seats about 30 people, according Dehaene, with 12 seats at the bar. Kenneth McClure, formerly of Ouzo Bay and W.C. Harlan, is running The Other Corner's bar program, which features house cocktails with names like Hampden Night Owl and the Duck Hunt, which will be served with a candied foie gras garnish.The Other Corner's address, technically is 850 B W. 36th St., but its entrance is on Elm Street. The building was most recently home to a private club.
The Other Corner is open seven days a week, from 4 p.m. until 1:30 a.m. A daily happy hour, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. features mini sandwiches and $8 charcuterie plates.
There is no phone number for The Other Corner, and no website.
"Just drop by," Dehaene said.
