The owners of the original Chesapeake Restaurant say that the opening of Harborplace in 1980 was among the factors contributing to its decline in the years before it closed. The once-fashionable area around the restaurant would not be revived until years later, as Baltimoreans instead turned their attention toward the Inner Harbor.
