For the Hampden cowgirl: Golden West Cafe
There's are a handful of very good reasons why Golden West
has advanced to the top of Baltimore's brunch class -- the huevos rancheros, the breakfast burrito, the Elvis pancakes (yes, with bananas and peanut butter) the cinnamon French toast (shown here) and, our favorite, the breakfast polenta. It all goes down well in Golden West's cheerful western digs, especially back at the Long Bar, where you're less likely to have a little dogie under your feet. The bonus: Golden West serves breakfast on Saturday, too. (Baltimore Sun photo/Kim Hairston /March 10, 2011)
Your worst brunch of the year might be this Sunday.
The reason is simple. It's the change to daylight saving time. At best, everyone on the staff will have lost an hour's sleep. At worst, someone wil have forgotten to move the clock ahead. They can post all the reminders they want to, but someone always forgets.
My advice, if you're going out to brunch this Sunday. Sleep in an extra hour, especially if you're one of those people who is out there waiting for the staff to open the doors. Actually, don't be that person ever if you can help it.
If you wait that extra hour, there's a much better chance that a fresh pot of coffee will be waiting for you.
