What does Baltimore have in common with Portland, Ore., Seattle and Charlotte, N.C.? Each one has been named a 'Top Banana City.' These cities, apparently, have a disproportionately large percentage of banana-loving residents.
That's according to the Dole Fresh Fruit, a subsidiary of the Dole Food Company, Inc., which has brought banana-focused activities to Baltimore for the month of July as part of its "2012 Go Bananas Every Day" campaign.
The tour is partnering with Baltimore bloggers and spotlighting local restaurants with a "particular passion for bananas," among them Miss Shirley’s (Funky Monkey Bread), Golden West Cafe (Elvis Pancakes) and Sofi’s (Bananarama Crepes).
"Most Americans wouldn't even think of a breakfast or lunch without bananas" said Dole Fresh Fruit marketing executive David Bright. The Go Bananas Every Day campaign, targeted at health and fitness enthusiasts, hopes to make the 'iconic fruit an even bigger part of America's daily routine.'
