Before there was Harry Potter midnight release parties, there was Georges Duboeuf, the mastermind behind the annual "third-Thursday-in-November" release of Beaujolais Nouveau.

This year's release is accompanied by an energetic and fresh national campaign called Nouveau Expression -- the 2011 graffiti label is the work of the Brooklyn-based artist known as Mr. Kaves.

Metropolitan will host its fifth annual "From the Barrel" Beaujolais Nouveau release party on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. The Federal Hill cafe and wine bar has again arranged to procure five small barrels of 2011 Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau. Tickets are $50 per person and include Beaujolais Nouveau from the barrel. Tickets are limited to 60 people to ensure that every one gets enough wine, and a dinner spread of Boeuf Bourguignon, Coq au Vin, killer French cheeses as well as other tasty treats.

The Wine Source in Hampden is holdling a free Beaujolais Nouveau tasting on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m.

In Roland Park, Petit Louis is offering a special $39 three-course lunch menu on Thursday. The main course is Boeuf Bourguignon. Call 410-366-9393 for reservations. Crepe du Jour in Mount Washington is promising a special menu of French "traditional favorites," too.

Also on Thursday, at 6:30 p.m., Tersiguel's in Ellicott City is offering a $100 five-course chef's menu with Beaujolais wine pairings. Twenty-five percent of the profits is being donated to the Rotary Foundation.

Annapolis will participate with a party at Red Red Wine Bar. The day begins early, with the ceremonial delivery of the first case Beaujolais Nouveau by Mayor Joshua J. Cohen, who will help escort the case from the Annapolis docks, where it will arrive by speedboat, to Red Red Wine Bar.
