Movies and crepes go together. The original Sofi's Crepes is still running next to The Charles, now a new Sofi's has opened directly across from The Senator.
The new address is 5911 York Road, and the phone number is 410-727-5737. Tentative hours at the new location are Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
The Belvedere Square location is planning a Nov. 18 grand opening featuring live music and celebrity crepe-makers. Sofi's is donating 50 percent of its profits from the opening to Our Daily Bread for Thanksgiving dinners.
Across the street from Sofi's, on the same side of the block as the Senator, Jerry's Belvedere Tavern is going to town on Girl Scout Cookies.
Through Friday, Jerry's is helping a neighboring Girl Scout Troop Stars & Stripes week campaign. Jerry's is making a daily special menu item made with Girl Scout Cookies that they purchased from Troop 259 --for instance, lemon-crusted mahi mahi with Savannah Smiles sauce, Samoas tempura shrimp and Thank U Berry Munch and crabmeat-stuffed roasted pork loin.
For every dish sold, Jerry’s will donate 10 percent of the profits to Girl Scouts of Central Maryland's Operation U.S. Mint campaign, a partnership project with the USO that sends boxes of Girl Scout Cookies to US Armed Forces personnel at home and abroad.
All this week, Girl Scouts across Central Maryland are asking their cookie customers to donate boxes of cookies to Operation U.S. Mint. The idea for a Stars & Stripes Week menu came from Troop 259, a Govans-area Girl Scout Daisy and Brownie Troop, whose members will be selling cookies outside of Jerry's Belvedere every day from 4 to 6 p.m. through Friday, Nov. 11, Veterans Day.
Last year, girls collected nearly 13,000 donated boxes of Girl Scout Cookies for the troops. Year round, Girl Scouts across Central Maryland troops meet and greet troops at BWI/Thurgood Marshall Airport, handing out cookies to returning and departing soldiers.
