2. A Common Ground

The only full-service café on The Avenue in Hampden, Common Ground serves as a neighborhood coffee shop as well as a layover for tourists bouncing between boutiques and antique stores, offering quick service for those in a rush and comfortable seating for those who aren't. The coffee here is from Café Pronto, though you'll find Zeke's blends featured as the coffee of the day. Unfortunately, like a lot of Hampden, the shop closes down at 5 p.m., so you'll need to plan accordingly. Despite Common Grounds' early hours, if you spend enough time here, you'll probably meet some of the characters who give the neighborhood its unique reputation.--Martin Johnson
