Federal Hill has its share of places to eat late on weekends. But if you want to avoid the mob at places like Maria D's, try newcomer Ruben's Crepes, which seems to be under the radar. The brightly colored traditional Mexican decor and the relatively light crowds after hours make Ruben's a great place to satisfy a craving.
One drawback: Ruben's is small, with a few small tables in the front and a large window facing the sidewalk. Still, it doesn't seem to get packed, which means service is prompt. That's great, considering the crepes prepared by Chef Ruben and his staff are pretty incredible.
Ruben's serves a variety of sweet and savory crepes (alongside traditional Mexican fare), packed with freshly prepared ingredients. The Ruben Special ($10), stuffed with carnitas, fried jalapenos and egg and wrapped in a spongy crepe, has a great blend of flavors. The portions are big enough to share; it's smarter to save some for breakfast the next morning.
