Notable: On her latest album, "Jumping Flea," Vox only played ukulele. Then, she sent her recordings to two producers in Los Angeles, who added vibraphone, melodica and cello to the tracks.

Quotable: "It was interesting stepping back from the project and not really controlling too much the direction it was going in," Vox said. "They hear things that I don't necessarily hear, and they heard maybe something better than what's in my head. I just gave them the raw goods."
