Gatsby Gets the Green Light
Hometown: Westminster
Current members: Rory Pettingill, vocals; Trevor Simpson, guitar and vocals; Andrew Cohen, bass and vocals; Matt Galler, drums
Founded in: 2005
Style: pop rock
Influenced by: the Mars Volta, the Academy Is, Treos
Notable: While recording their debut EP Choose Your Own Adventure, band members added extra overdubs. To re-create the full sound live, they played tracks off a laptop until it was stolen on a recent tour stop in Nashville. Now, they've downgraded to an iPod but want to keep using the pre-recorded drum tracks and other instrumentation in their shows.
Quotable: Simpson on playing with the iPod: "It definitely has made us on the whole a much tighter musical unit. The
benefits way outweigh the drawbacks. It's more for a matter of professionalism and being able to play with a computer. I
wish we had the money to hire an orchestra or something like that, but until then, we have a computer."
