Thrushes

Hometown: Baltimore

Current members: Anna Conner, vocals and guitar; Casey Harvey, guitar and vocals; Matt Davis, drums, chimes, bells and percussion; Rachel Tracy, bass and shakers

Founded in: 2005

Style: shoegaze (a form of alternative rock with a wall of sound and distorted guitars)

Influenced by: the Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Pixies, Asobi Seksu, Serena Maneesh

Notable: The band had only two days to record its debut album, Sun Come Undone, which was released this month. Live, Thrushes conjure a massive wall of sound. Harvey said the group worried they wouldn't be able to capture the same spirit in the studio.

Quotable: "That was the toughest part for us -- trying to figure out how we were going to translate that live sound on CD without it sounding really crazy," Harvey said. "My fear was that it would come out one muddy mess of sound. It came out really, really clear."
