Set in 1904 Japan, the opera Madama Butterfly
tells a story of tragic love between the young geisha
Cio-Cio-San and her unfaithful husband, American
Lieutenant Pinkerton. A perennial of American
opera, it is one of Puccini's best known besides La
Boheme. The Baltimore Opera Company's opening
performance on Saturday features Shu-Ying Li (pictured) and
Jose Luis Duval singing classic pieces such as "Un
Bel Di."<br>

at varying dates and
