Vans Warped Tour
The 2008 incarnation of the Vans Warped Tour rolls into town Wednesday at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia. The punk-rock extravaganza features more than 20 singers and bands, including Pennywise, Reel Big Fish, Katy Perry and Gym Class Heroes. Various vendors will be at the daylong event, and there will be opportunities for meet-and-greets with various bands.
The Vans Warped Tour is Wednesday at Merriweather Post Pavilion, 10475 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia. Gates open at 11 a.m. with performances throughout the day. Tickets are $31. Call 410-547-7328 or go to ticketmaster.com.
Wine and dine
Budding chefs and amateur wine connoisseurs will have a chance to get a taste of the region's finest offerings at the Baltimore Chefs and Wine Experience on Sunday. Headlining the event are Ted Allen, the featured food expert from TV's Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, and Master of Wine Tim Hanni, one of two Americans holding the prestigious, internationally recognized distinction. Visitors can attend wine seminars and watch cooking demonstrations, and select wines will be available for sale.
The Baltimore Chefs and Wine Experience is noon-6 p.m. Sunday at the Tremont Grand, 225 N. Charles St. Tickets are $55. To buy tickets, go to baltimorechefsandwine.org.
Pow-wow in Howard
Various tribes will be participating in the 15th annual Howard County Pow-Wow/American Indian Show and Festival at the Howard County Fairgrounds this weekend. With education as the main goal, the Pow-Wow hopes to teach the public about American Indians through interactions with dancers, singers, drummers, artists and craftspeople. Keith Colston of Baltimore will serve as master of ceremonies of the event, which includes appearances by Native American flutist Tsa'ne Do'se and the Aztec Dancers.
The Pow-Wow runs 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 for children and $8 for adults. The Howard County Fairgrounds are at 2210 Fairgrounds Road, West Friendship. Call 410-442-1022.
